Molly Kunselman has always been keenly aware of the space she and others inhabit. As a young girl she rearranged rooms in her childhood home, much to her sister and parents’ surprise. To this day, she recreates her own living environment often.
Molly earned her Bachelor of Art degree in fine art from a small, liberal arts college in Pennsylvania. Afterward she completed a number of additional college-level courses in architecture including design, history, and graphics.
A variety of professional and personal experiences contribute to Molly’s understanding of space design. As the Assistant Curator for the State Museum of Pennsylvania she designed art and information exhibits. As the In-house Artist and Designer for an urban, mixed-use facility in downtown Harrisburg, PA she was responsible for communications, merchandising and decorations. She served as a board member of a contemporary art gallery, an apprentice in a potter’s studio in Scotland, and a teacher of pottery and printmaking. In 2001 she co-founded Fathom Design Group (a design and communications agency in Harrisburg, PA— fathomdesigngroup.com) and subsequently served as the Co-owner and Design Principal. Concerned with urban planning and revitalization Molly was one of seven co-founders of Friends of Midtown, a grass-roots organization dedicated to promoting vitality and culture in Midtown Harrisburg (friendsofmidtown.org).
Her credentials also include assistant teaching Architectural Design I and II at Harrisburg Area Community College, and serving as a panel juror for numerous architectural design reviews.
Molly Kunselman Design (formerly Molly Smith Design) was founded in 2004 in Harrisburg, PA. Currently MKD is located in New Bern, North Carolina.
